This is my entry in the 40th Fall Festival Poster Contest. It is a 20X24 oil paining called “Art In the Park”.
The painting represents an event in 1890 when the city council decided to establish Corvallis as a center for the arts. They voted to have a major event in Central Park and invited many of the best known artists of the time to attend. The newly completed Courthouse was to serve as a backdrop for this garden party. Shown here are a few of the guests who attended. They include the Modigliani sisters, the Seurat family, Whistler’s mother, and Van Gogh, seen here in the background somewhat disoriented and looking for Theo.
This event was the predecessor of our modern Fall Festival.
